Not that anyone cares anymore...

Another artist you might want to be looking at.  What can be done with enough creative thinking and a few objects...just sayin'...

I'm still watching you!

Thank you to all of you who are continuing to produce and post!  I am loving it from so far away.  It definitely makes me very proud and happy that you are using your conceptual selves - in particular a huge shout out to Eric Moe for his Idealism piece - bravo!  Stacey, I love the wood painting you're doing...Jin and your new pieces - I want to see them all together! - Sarah - LOVE the pencil piece of your father - and so many more.  Most of you won't see this but know I am still watching you and hope you help the students who haven't created blogs to follow.

Oh, and you know how I feel about Tumblr - I DEFINITELY CAN'T OPEN AT SCHOOL NOW!

xx

Prada!  You HAVE to come see this installation!
So it's been a while since I've posted.  It's probably been even longer since any of you have looked at the site (so does that make us even?) and I'm sitting in a hotel in California, ready to make the final leg of the move a reality.  But what do I do as I'm driving?  Think about art and art history, of course!  I have wanted to see the Prada Marfa installation for as long as I can remember (at least as long as I lived in Texas...) and I swore before I moved, I would.  It was every bit as wonderful as I had hoped...in the middle of NOWHERE and I felt like I was a part of this experiential moment in time.

PS:  I'm still looking for those posts and the summer work...

PPS:  Just sayin'

Calling all 2013-14 AP Studio people! Time to get that website up and connected here!

Yes, I'm talking to YOU!  What, school just out you say?  Summer break allowed?  Seriously?  Summer vacation is very overrated.  I'm still waiting to see the sites you create and the work you post so don't disappoint me...if you don't know where to begin, contact someone who can help you.  If you STILL don't know where to begin go to blogspot.com and start there.  Remember, I need your link so I can post on this site...
I miss you all, by the way...

Home Sweet Home...

What? You thought I was leaving?

Yeah, I know these aren't really my eyes but they'll work, right?

What can I say to all of you who know me so well?  The eight years at Bowie, the incredible art and growth of the department, the love I have for who you are, the procrastination...(couldn't let that one go by now, could I...).  I'll be watching for your work, your continued posts, your insights and successes, your not-so-successful pieces and what you do to turn them around.

Anyone can talk about creating a masterpiece but only a master will create it.

Be a master.  Not for me but for yourself.  I have faith in you.

AP Studio Summer Work 2013-2014

AP Studio Drawing/Painting and 2D

Summer Work

Summer work is required for acceptance to AP Studio for 2013-2014.  Review the information below and keep in mind summer work MUST be done and brought in on the first day of class.

1.     You will need a sketchbook.  You can find an interesting book to turn into a sketchbook, make one of your own, or purchase one new.  Not only should you be recording ideas and sketches of your work and everyday thinking but I will be grading summer sketchbooks based on the summer assignments you have done.  Due the first day of school.

2.     Begin making a list of your concentration ideas.  This may be the most important thing you do all summer and needs to be clear, concise and thought-provoking.  If you can’t think of 15 individual artworks for the idea you have, think of another concentration to do.  I have a list of over

3.    Go to the College Board website and see what has been done and what portfolios have received high scores.  Make a list of those ideas that intrigued you for a discussion on the first day of class.  The sites for both AP Studio Drawing and AP Studio 2D are:

4.    Make three works of art, complete and portfolio-ready, using the concentration idea you like the most.  We will be discussing concentration ideas at the beginning of the year.  Your work should be interesting, relate to each other, be of any materials as long as they remain 2D, and be ready to be photographed.  Photography and computer generated work is only acceptable if you plan on created a 2D portfolio.

5.    Look at art.  Look at art even more.  Now go make art.

Tick Tock...

I've just finished taking a look at what you all have been doing (or not doing) again.  Please make sure to post what you are working on, your sketchbook that led up to what you are working on, and if you haven't already, organize or reorganize your work so it can be viewed as you final portfolio will be by the AP readers.

Tick tock, baby.
